120fps gaming through GeForce NOW was previously only available for a select few Samsung handsets. Including the Galaxy S21 series, the Galaxy S20 FE, and the Galaxy Note 20 series phones. With the Pixel 6 Pro onboard, perhaps NVIDIA will now begin to expand the feature out to other devices which have 120Hz screens and beyond. Which is just about every recent gaming phone from the last year or two. That being said, the feature is still limited.
120fps on the Pixel 6 Pro is limited to GeForce NOW RTX 3080 subscribers
If you have a Pixel 6 Pro and you want the better frame rates, you’ll need to subscribe to the RTX 3080 tier of GeForce NOW. As that’s the only plan that offers it. That makes sense given this is NVIDIA’s high-end tier for the service. In addition to the 120fps, the RTX 3080 tier is also the only plan that gives you 8-hour session lengths, up to 1440p resolution, and 4K HDR on the SHIELD TV. Getting all of that will cost you though. As the subscription is $99.99 for a 6-month membership. Which is $200 annually. That being said, it’s not a bad option if you don’t exactly have a powerful gaming PC. And it’s not exactly easy to get the components for one in the first place. Your best bet, really, would be to purchase a pre-built machine, and even then you may be running into a) stock issues or b) a much higher cost. Especially if it’s a gaming laptop.
The RTX 3080 tier is now available to everyone
When the RTX 3080 tier first launched, NVIDIA made it available to pre-orders only. Following that there was also a waitlist. Which meant access was still limited. Earlier this month, however, NVIDIA opened up the access to everyone and got rid of the waitlist. So now anyone can sign up and check it out. If you have a Pixel 6 Pro, now might be the perfect time to give this tier a go.
