It also suggests that Pixel Watch is going to be the official name of Google’s first in-house smartwatch. The Pixel Watch has been rumored for quite some time at this point. And was thought to have been announced and released by now. But since the first rumors appeared Google has yet to confirm the watch’s existence. With this new trademark being filed, though, this is another strong hint that the watch does exist. And Google could end up unveiling it during Google I/O, which is scheduled to happen in May.
The Pixel Watch trademark covers the Pixel Watch & its accessories
Based on the filing documentation, Google is looking to have the trademark cover not just the watch but also any accompanying accessories. The filing states that the trademark should cover “smartwatches; cases adapted for holding smartwatches; wearable computers in the nature of smartwatches; smartwatch straps; smartwatch bands.” It further goes on to lump in “watches; wrist watches; sport watches; watch bands; watch straps made of metal, leather, plastic, silicone, or rubber.” By the sounds of things, Google is probably just covering its bases here. But it could also be pointing to the company releasing various models of Pixel Watches and numerous straps and bands of different materials. With the trademark filing out of the way (minus the trademark being granted), Google will still need to cross a few Ts and dot a few Is. For example, it will still need to gain approval from the FCC. Now that we know what the watch should officially be called, there’s not much else left to know. Numerous leaks have already shown off what the design is likely to be. And another recent rumor has suggested that the watch will launch with Wear OS 3.1. All that’s really left to know is when it launches, where it will be available, and what it will cost.
