The Google app is now slightly darker

It seems that having a dark theme is something that everyone wants. People usually complain when there’s no dark theme on an app or UI. Android 12 brought on a system-wide dark theme that can be toggled with the flip of a switch. This makes everything dark, but it could be darker. The latest beta for the Google app just dropped, and it makes the app even darker. It seems weird that Google would make this change only for the Google app. You can see a slightly darker color in the background throughout the app. It’s more noticeable, however, while looking at the Discover feed. The company gave the Google app a slightly darker color, but it’s still a similar shade of gray. While that’s not much of a change, this could point to other Google apps getting a slightly darker theme. Who knows if the company will implement this change to the entire interface in the future? It’s not too big of a change, but it’s still welcome.

This is only for the beta version of the app

If you’ve been dying for a slightly darker version of the Google app, then you can only see it on the beta version. If you want to try out the beta version, you’ll need to join the beta for this app in the Play Store. Search up the Google app in the Play Store, and right under the install options, you should see information on the beta program. Tap the “join” option, and you’ll be added to the beta after a few minutes. Just know that if you use the beta version of the app, it might not be as stable as the regular version. You might encounter some bugs or poor performance while using it.

There’s another Google app in beta testing that you can try

Another beta with some changes is the Gboard app. When you type in words, you usually get suggestions for words and emojis. However, with this new beta, you’ll also get suggestions for text-based stickers. When you type in a phrase, you’ll be suggested stickers with those words or similar words. This essentially converts your text into a sticker.
