Of course, the bulk of the camera sensors found in the next-generation Pixel 7 series will be similar to the previous gadget. That’s not too surprising since Google has traditionally been slow to switch sensors. The company has chosen, instead, to focus on the software side of the equation for the most part. The change-up in question applies specifically to the telephoto snapper. The search giant will reportedly be switching from the Sony-built IMX576 sensor to the Samsung ICOSELL GM1 sensor. The latter packs a 48-megapixel resolution into a half-inch size with phase-detection autofocus. That’s along with features such as 4K video capabilities and FullHD at up to 120fps.
What other camera sensors will Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro utilize?
A similar run of features will also purportedly appear in the forward-facing cameras. Albeit with dual-pixel autofocus instead of phase-detection. Snaps will be delivered via a Samsung ISOCELL 3J1 11-megapixel sensor at a third-inch size with a 1.22µm pixel size. Conversely, the company will stick with Sony sensors for ultrawide captures. That’s if the reports are to be believed. Specifically, the 12-megapixel Sony IMX381 sensor. While the primary snapper will remain the same from the Google Pixel 6 series. Namely, with Google utilizing the older Samsung ISOCELL GN1 50-megapixel snapper.
A third and fourth Pixel-branded handset is coming?
In addition to those apparent leaks, sources also point to the release of an as-yet-unannounced third Pixel 7 gadget and a Pixel foldable. The former of which is purportedly slated with the codename “Lynx.” According to the leaks, Lynx packs the same primary snapper as the rest of the Pixel 7 series. However, that’s been coupled with a Sony IMX787 sensor for zoomed shots. And with a Sony IMX 712 sensor around the front for selfies. The latter device, purportedly a Pixel-branded foldable, uses the same ISOCELL GN1 as the Pixel 7 lineup. However, if the leaks are accurate, Google is pairing that with a Sony IMX386 for ultrawide captures. And with a Sony IMX363 for zoomed shots. Around the front, the Pixel foldable will reportedly come with an 11-megapixel Sony IMX355 snapper for selfies.
