The biggest piece of the patch will be the conclusion of the Inazuma Archon Quest storyline. But there’s more to the patch that wasn’t discussed in our announcement post, so we’re going over it here since the details make things a bit more lengthy. Keep in mind that miHoYo hasn’t announced everything going on in 2.1 yet. While it’s given out some details on what’s to come, any content associated with events that are further out in the patch haven’t been revealed. But that still leaves quite a hefty chunk of information about the upcoming content. So let’s dive into it.

Genshin Impact 2.1 will wrap up the Inazuma Archon Quest (the main storyline)

The biggest part of this patch is as noted above. The conclusion of the main storyline for the Inazuma region. Which is the third major city in Teyvat out of the seven in total that miHoYo plans to release over the next few years. The story continues to revolve around the Raiden Shogun, and will take players to new parts of Inazuma. Players will deal with resistance forces and unfold new mysteries within the game surrounding Inazuma.

There will be three new characters to acquire

If you’re a heavy collector, you’ll get three new characters to acquire with this new patch. Raiden Shogun and Sangonomiya Kokomi which will have story quests to introduce the characters, and Kujou Sara. None of the character’s abilities have been explained in detail via the official announcement, but that information is most likely coming closer to the release of Genshin Impact Patch 2.1. However, miHoYo’s announcement does officially mention a few details about each character to get players excited.

Raiden Shogun

Raiden Shogun will be a five-star Electro polearm user who is capable of dealing massive damage. She will also be able to give the team some useful buffs. If you’re light on polearm users, or electro users for that matter, you’ll want to try your hand at getting Raiden Shogun. As she will no doubt be a strong character to have in your party. Especially if her strength is anything like Zhongli, a five-star geo polearm user introduced a while back.

Sangonomiya Kokomi

Sangonomiya Kokomi is the second character coming with this patch, and will also be a five-star character. She uses the power of hydro and is equipped with a catalyst. She’s known as the Divine Priestess of Watasumi Island and is the leader of the resistance forces that the player will encounter as part of the main story. Primarily, Sangonomiya Kokomi will be a healer. So she could turn out to be a decent replacement for Barbara if you always like to have a healer on your team. In fact, miHoYo states that she can “provide a great amount of healing for your team.” So she will definitely be one to watch for players who enjoy implementing a support role.

Kujou Sara

The last of the three new characters being introduced as part of the Inazuma story is Kujou Sara. miHoyo doesn’t mention whether or not she’s a five-star. But with patch 2.0 there were two five-star characters and one four-star character. So there’s a chance that could be happening here too. Since the other two are five-star characters, that would make Kujou the four-star character if miHoYo is going the same route. Kujou Sara is an electro bow user, and the General of the Tenryou Commission that’s loyal to the Shogun. In addition to doing ranged electro damage with her bow, she can also provide buffs for the team.

Players will visit two new islands in Inazuma with Genshin Impact 2.1

While Inazuma is already a vast region, it’s getting even bigger with Genshin Impact patch 2.1. As there will be two new islands added to the game. This includes Watasumi Island, home to Sangonomiya Kokomi, and Seirai Island. Watasumi Island is described as a beautiful island with “dream-like scenery.” Whereas Seirai Island is more of a foreboding location with a more desolate appearance. Seirai Island is also covered in perpetual storms that will add to the overall dark ambience of the island.

Genshin Impact 2.1 finally introduces fishing

When it comes large, open-world games, there’s just something about fishing that seems so relaxing. Whether you’re doing it in an MMO or an action RPG game like Genshin Impact, fishing is an important feature. Mainly because it revolves around using the fish for cooking up new recipes. Fishing in Genshin Impact won’t be much different in this regard. As players will be able to bring out their inner angler to catch numerous types of fish all over Teyvat’s currently available regions. You’ll certainly be able to cook different dishes with the fish you catch. But you can also turn in the fish for various rewards. You’ll turn in the fish to the newly available Fishing Association, which will also get you new upgraded fishing rods. Likely with better capabilities or stats. So make sure to fish as often as you can. The fishing-related content doesn’t end there either. If you have a personal realm set up, you can acquire a new furnishing called the Pool Of Sapphire Grace that lets you raise ornamental fish. This furnishing is part of the Serenitea Pot system.

Challenge yourself against new bosses

While there are probably more than three new bosses being introduced in patch 2.1, so far miHoYo has announced three. This includes the Hydro Hypostasis, the Thunder Manifestation, and the new Trounce Domain boss Signora.

Explore the origins of the ancient Moonchase Festival in Liyue Harbor

The world of Teyvat is steeped in traditions and one that you can participate in with the upcoming patch is the Moonchase Festival. This is an ancient traditional festival that takes place in Liuye Harbor, where locals share food and drink while engaging in general merriment. During the festival, players will join Keqing and Xiangling to sample a veritable spread of local dishes. While also learning about the origins of the festival. You’ll also be able to learn new recipes from the local dishes, which you can then later cook yourself to gain boosts.

Set out on a treasure hunt in the Moonlight Seeker event

As part of Genshin Impact 2.1 and the Moonchase Festival, players can also participate in the Moonlight Seeker event. A giant treasure hunt that will take players all across Liuye, Mondstadt, and Dragonspine. There’s quite a bit that ties into this event. Including a new daily log-in event that will reward players with 10 intertwined fates. Naturally, you’ll want all 10 of these, as you can use them for the Wish system and potentially score one of the new characters. With the treasure hunt, players will need to seek out specific things in each of the three above-mentioned regions. In doing so, players can earn special rewards. Which they can then turn in for resources used for upgrading gear and other items.

Obtain new weapons in Genshin Impact 2.1

It wouldn’t be a new content patch without some new weapons with which to dispatch enemies. miHoYo has so far revealed three new weapons that players will be able to acquire. This includes a new five-star polearm called Engulfing Lightning. This is the same weapon you can see Raiden Shogun using in the patch 2.1 trailer. There’s also the five-star catalyst that Sangonomiya Kokomi uses in the trailer called Everlasting Moonglow. Lastly, there’s a new four-star claymore called Luxurious Sea-Lord, which as you can see is simply a giant fish. Ushering in the era of getting some goofy and weird weapons within the game. The nice thing about Luxurious Sea-Lord if you love these types of weapons, is that it’s obtainable through the Moonlight Seeker event. Giving you another reason to participate in it once it goes live. On top of that, you can earn resources during the event that allow you to take Luxurious Sea-Lord to max refinement. Though that may take a considerable amount of effort and play time. So you won’t want to mess around.

Log in to PS4 or PS5 to obtain special five-star character ‘Aloy’

Officially there are just three new characters coming in Genshin Impact patch 2.1. At least in regards to the main story for Inazuma. But there is a fourth character you can acquire once the patch drops on September 1. Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn. Aloy is Genshin Impact’s first crossover character, and is a special five-star bow user with some unique abilities. You can obtain her completely for free simply by logging in to the game either on PS4 or PS5 during patch 2.1. And in patch 2.2 she’ll be available to all players across all platforms. Worth noting is that miHoYo refers to Aloy as the “first” crossover character. Which suggests that there will be more in the future.

Watch the Genshin Impact Patch 2.1 official trailer

If you happened to miss the trailer earlier, you definitely want to check it out. As there’s some cool scenes that show off gameplay and visuals for the upcoming characters and regions. Most of the information in the trailer is already detailed here in this post. But it’s still worth a watch to get you excited for what’s coming on September 1.

Check out the Patch 2.1 Special Program preview

If you’re still hungry for even more information about Genshin Impact’s next patch, watch the Special Program preview here. Set aside some time though because it’s just over an hour and a half long. That being said, there’s definitely a lot of details about the upcoming content included. Plus, the Special Program preview is hosted by six of the game’s voice actors. Making it all the more fun to watch. The preview also contains three redeemable codes. Which you can enter to acquire 100 primogems each. In addition to a few other useful in-game items. And while miHoYo does not mention in-depth details about any of the abilities for the three new characters in its official announcement, they are actually discussed here. So if you’re curious to know what each character is capable of, the preview is where you’ll be able to find out.
