Now, based on this article, this is more of an educated guess than exclusive info. The source is basing this on information that has been constantly surfacing, mainly through various code entries.
The Pixel 7a may ship with a flagship camera, wireless charging, and more higher-end features
9to5Google says they’ve been tracking five Google devices since early 2022. The devices set for the Fall 2022 and mid-year 2023 launch. Two out of those five already launched, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. Those two devices are known as ‘Panther’ and ‘Cheetah’ (their codenames). That leaves us with three other devices. The upcoming Pixel Tablet is known as ‘Tangor’, while the ‘Felix’ seems to be the company’s upcoming foldable smartphone. That device is known as the Pixel Fold and Pixel Notepad, though Google may not use either of those names. So, what’s the last one? It’s the ‘Lynx’. That device is believed to be the Pixel 7a. Some tipsters did assume it’s the Pixel 7 Mini, but that’s highly unlikely. We also know that the Pixel 7a is in the works at this point, so it fits. The source believes that everything they’ve seen thus far suggests that the Pixel 7a will be a more premium phone than its predecessors. The device will, reportedly utilize the Google Tensor G2 SoC, the same one that fuels the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. That is to be expected, as the Pixel 6a uses the same SoC as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
A ceramic body is also tipped, but that’s not likely to happen
Another piece of info suggested that a ceramic body may be in use. That detail is a bit harder to believe, to be quite honest. That rumor suggested Google will use such material in one of its flagships, but 9to5Google believes it’ll be the Pixel 7a. We really don’t see the Pixel 7a utilizing ceramic when neither of Google’s flagships do, but we’ll see. In fact, that ceramic body rumor may refer to the Pixel Tablet, as that device will use a nano-ceramic coating, which will give the device’s body that porcelain look. But who knows. Furthermore, wireless charging is also tipped to be included. It’s about time, actually. Wireless charging has been around for a long time, and the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro utilize it. It would be nice to see it in the Pixel A series. Android researcher spotted that detail a while back.
Google may utilize the same main camera as on the Pixel 7 & Pixel 7 Pro
What about the cameras? Well, the Pixel 7a is tipped to include the same main camera as its siblings. In other words, the Samsung ISOCELL GN1 sensor will be included, it seems. The source even goes as far as hinting that both telephoto and ultrawide cameras will also be included. That would make the Pixel 7a the first Pixel A series phone to have three cameras on the back. Truth be said, we’re a bit skeptical about the ceramic portion of this, and the three rear cameras info. It seems a bit out there, but the Tensor G2, wireless charging, and the ISOCELL GN1 main camera, do seem plausible. We’ll see. The Pixel 7a will most likely arrive in mid-2023.
