If you don’t know what TweetDeck is, it’s a version of Twitter that’s for avid tweeters (or just Twitter addicts). It’s a large view that shows you multiple timelines at the same time. Also, it shows you your messages, trending hashtags, and your notifications all on the same screen. It’s for people who want an all-in-one view of their Twitter activity.
TweetDeck might require a paid subscription
While that’s all fine and dandy, there might be a catch. The new version of TweetDeck is slated to come out eventually, but when it does, it might not be free. There’s a chance that the new TweetDeck will require a paid subscription to Twitter Blue. Jane Manchun Wong tweeted some leaked screenshots of the platform, and we see an interesting screen. The first screenshot shows the sign-up page for TweetDeck. The second screenshot is the one that raises questions. It shows the text “Setting up your subscription”. Not only that, but Wong said in another tweet that she found code that “gates the access of TweetDeck on whether the user has Twitter Blue subscription and redirects them to the sign-up page if they don’t.” Basically, when you try to access the TweetDeck feature, it will check to see if you’re subscribed to Twitter Blue or not. If you’re not, then it will redirect you to the Twitter Blue sign-up page. Another hint that TweetDeck will require a paid subscription is one of the perks: no ads. In yet another tweet from Wong, we see that Twitter says the new TweetDeck experience will be ad-free. The fact that it’s ad-free heavily implies that it’s going to be behind a paywall. We don’t know quite when this new version of TweetDeck will come out. If you’re an avid TweetDeck user, and you don’t want to pay, then you should enjoy it while you still can.
