Microsoft says new Windows 10 devices will receive the update first. So the older your PC is, the longer your wait will be. The company hopes to make Windows 11 available to all compatible Windows 10 PCs by mid-2022. That’s quite a large window Microsoft has given itself there, so it could proceed with the rollout with caution. Nonetheless, if your PC meets all requirements, you can be on the lookout for your free Windows 11 upgrade over the coming weeks and months.
How to get Windows 11
If you are running Windows 10, you can check whether or not your PC can run Windows 11 using Microsoft’s PC Health Check app. Once you’ve confirmed that your PC is compatible with the latest iteration of the Windows operating system, you can proceed with the download, subject to availability. To check for updates, navigate to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. As said earlier, newer Windows 10 devices will receive the Windows 11 update first. So you might have to wait for months depending on the age of your PC. But once it’s available, you have to simply select Download and install and your PC will do the rest of the work. You will require to restart your PC to complete the installation. You can also use Microsoft’s Download Assistant tool to check for the Windows 11 update. It will automatically download the new version for you when available. You can then install it whenever you want. Other ways of installing Windows 11 include creating a bootable installation media using a USB drive or DVD. You can also download the Windows 11 disk image (ISO) to create a bootable installation media or create a virtual machine. Windows 11 brings a plethora of changes to Microsoft’s PC operating system. A revamped user interface (UI), newer widgets, redesigned Start menu, and Microsoft Teams integration are some of the highlights. The latest iteration of the Windows OS will come out of the box in recently launched Microsoft devices including the Surface Go 3, Surface Pro 8, and others. All of these devices are available to purchase starting today. Microsoft says the likes of Samsung, Acer, Dell, Asus, Lenovo, and HP will also be releasing new laptops and PCs with Windows 11 in the coming months.
